Lining Up Tractor Fed FL-2 Forms

Because of the large number of printers on the market today is is impossible to provide exact instructions for every model. This document provides a set of general procedures that should apply to most popular printers.

  1. First insure that the print driver and printer settings are syncronized. The most common indication that there is a problem with this is the production of unrecognizable output. Think of the print driver as a language translator between your printer and Microsoft Windows. If the translator (the print driver) is not told what languages to translate from and to, it cannot properly do its job and unrecognizable output is the result. If you are using and Okidata Model 321 printer, your print driver should be for this model of printer.
  2. Many printers are able to emulate (behave like) other printers. Although this make the printer more powerful it can make the initial setup more complicated. If your Epson printer is emulating an IBM Proprinter you print driver must be for an IBM Proprinter not an Epson.
  3. To avoid wasting more expensive forms is is advisable to practice lining up forms with plain 8 1/2 x 11 paper. Print a test page on plain paper, remove the page from the printer and hold the test page and a single blank FL-2 up to a strong light source. The light should show through both pieces of paper and allow you to see how well the form and the patient data line up.
  4. Left and Right adjustments are normally made by releasing the tractor locks and moving the paper to the left or right as needed. The tractor locks are usually small levers located near the pins that fit into the holes on the forms.
  5. Up and down adjustments are normally done by turning the knob on the right side of the printer forward or backward. More expensive printers may have a smaller knob within the largers knob for fine adjustments.
  6. Adjust the paper as needed and reprint the test page and compare it to the blank FL-2 form.
  7. Adjust and reprint until the form lineup is acceptable. Without changing any of the printer settings replace the blank paper with FL-2 forms and print a test page for final verification.
  8. When you have verified that the actual forms are aligned you will need to mark your printer to help you align the forms again without repeating this line up process. Look at the carriage of the printer and how it relates to the form. Pick a line on the form and mark the carriage next to this line with a pen, pencil or marker.
  9. The next time you put FL-2 forms in the printer locate the correct line on the form and align it to the mark on the printer.

Error 91 - Object Variable Not Set

This error message is generally encountered when your computer attempts to open the system data base and the data base could not be located. To resolve this problems you should check the following areas:

  1. Insure that the data base is in the correct sub-directory. In most cases the data base will be located in the same directory as the main program:
    .
Product Name Data Base Name Default Sub-Directory
    FL-2 Manager FL2MANGR.MDB C:\FL2MANGR
    Activity Info Manager ACTIVITY.MDB C:\ACTIVITY
    Diet Track DIETHIST.MDB C:\DIETTRAC
    Derma Track DERMTRAC.MDB C:\DERMTRAC

  2. Check the properties of the icon used to start the application, it should contain no working directory name or the working directory name should be the same as the directory that contains the system data base.
  3. If you are operating on a network, you may need to contact your network administrator to help you locate the system data base. In a network environment the location of the system data base is controlled by a '.INI' file as described in your system manual.
